A V8 forklift is a heavy-duty industrial truck powered by a V8 engine—typically propane, LPG, or diesel. These machines are built for extreme lifting capacities, often ranging from 25,000 to over 100,000 lbs, and are used in ports, steel mills, heavy manufacturing, and large-scale construction.
Toyota's Show-Stopper V8 Forklift
Toyota Material Handling Australia built a custom V8 forklift as a display vehicle, debuting at the Bathurst 1000 motor race in 2017. Based on a four-tonne payload Toyota model, the 18-month build used a crate Chevrolet engine with components sourced from across Australia. The project required engineering the engine installation and mating it to the forklift transmission. It now appears at charity events and trade shows.

Yanmar V8: A Note of Caution
The Yanmar V8 is a compact wheel loader, not a forklift. Powered by a 62 hp Tier 4 Final diesel engine, it has an operating weight of 10,802 lbs and bucket capacity of 1.05–1.57 yd³. While it uses a V8 engine, it is not a forklift.
The bottom line: V8 forklifts are high-capacity industrial trucks with lifting capacities from 25,000 to over 100,000 lbs. Powered by propane, LPG, or diesel V8 engines, they are used in ports, steel mills, and heavy manufacturing. Notable examples include the Clark CH250-8 (25,000 lbs, V8 Chrysler), CAT V-200 (30,000 lbs, Ford V-8), Hoist F300-30 (30,000 lbs, 5.7L V8), Taylor TC400L (40,000 lbs, V8 propane), and Toyota's 100,000 lb capacity model with a 5.7L V8. Toyota also built a custom V8 forklift show vehicle in 2017.
